Program Manager Position


Part Time (20 hrs/week, flexible schedule)

$35,000 annual pay

No benefits

In-person & remote engagements required.

In-person attendance at all BAAITS events & BAAITS Powwow is required

Bay Area American Indian Two-Spirits (BAAITS) exists to restore and recover the roles of Two-Spirit people within American Indian/First Nations communities by creating a forum for issue advocacy, wellness and the spiritual, cultural and artistic expression of Two-Spirits and Indigiqueers. BAAITS gathers inter- tribal community to socialize, share, and network in an alcohol and drug-free environment. Cultural protocol guides BAAITS at every level as we respond to the needs of our emerging community.


The Program Manager will work collaboratively with our Wellness Coordinator, Executive Director and community partners to plan and accomplish a range of programs for the two-spirit & indigiqueer communities. In addition to our volunteer-organized February Two-Spirit powwow, we enact year-round programming including a mini- grant project, workshops and talking circles, and participate in the San Francisco, Oakland and San Jose Pride events, as well as local Native American/Indigenous activities. Programs are usually funded through contract/grant agreements, and they can vary in scale. Many of our activities have a single focus, such as: education, facilitating dialogue, two-spirit performance, ceremony/healing, or cultural learning.


Responsibilities:

  • Develop an annual work plan in conversation with the Executive Director, who is in regular collaboration with the Board.

  • Manage planning and implementation of Living in Abundance Initiative activities.

  • Manage year-round programming including a mini-grant project, workshops and talking circles and participate in San Francisco, Oakland and San Jose Pride events and local Native American/ Indigenous activities.

  • Provide basic admin structure and communications support for the February Two-Spirit powwow (digital infrastructure, donation links, website, sharing of social media and other accounts access, etc). The powwow is run by the volunteer Powwow Committee and a Consultant. The Program Manager is an assistant to the process rather than its driver.

  • Develop and implement systems and processes to establish and maintain records for individual programing via google suite or similar tools.

  • Assist in producing, developing, advertising, and marketing programs and activities in newsletters in collaboration with board members and maintain a social media presence via hootsuite and mailchimp.

  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.



Program Manager Qualifications / Skills:

  • Native and LGBTQ2SIAA++ cultural sensitivities are a must.

  • Three to five years of work experience as a successful program director, program manager, or project manager.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.

  • Experience managing teams through complex program implementations

  • Ability to supervise and train volunteers, to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments.

  • Ability to foster a cooperative work environment.

  • Experience drafting contracts and grant management includingwriting proposals and reports, tracking deliverables, and Dataanalysis

  • Strong problem-solving, negotiation, and communication skills.

  • Experience with Google Drive/Sheets/Docs, Mailchimp, Gmail, and other project management software and tools.

  • Willingness to learn other software and app-based platforms, as needed.

  • Experience facilitating/leading/hosting events and workshops.


Education & Experience Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree preferred, though not required

3-5 years related experience, with significant responsibility in program project management

Experience managing budgets for multiple projects
